ARTIST STATEMENT

Randy Thomae is a photographer who lives and works in the mountains of Colorado. Dedicated time in the field chasing light and emotion creates uplifting art that explores the nature of hope, which Thomae defines as finding joy through darkness. A relentless drive for perfection and obsessive focus on detail enable large scale printing up to 8 feet wide.

Raw emotion, unbridled creativity, and technical excellence combine to produce original, painterly, semi-abstract landscapes. Seeing the world through a long lens inspires intimate landscapes that draw the viewer into the essence of an emotion experienced outside. The artist composes their abstract landscapes using their mastery of distortion through tools such as reflections, too much light, too little focus, and long shutter speeds.
